Local Partnership Changes Mental Healthcare Service Delivery

WINDSOR LIFE MAGAZINE highlights the new MOST van (Mobile Outreach and Support Team) and partnership helping people facing homeless in Windsor, Ontario. Here is a small excerpt

 

It was one of the coldest nights of 2019 when the dedicated team of four loaded a van full of supplies to take on Windsor’s streets…

…Together the teams from Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH), Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario (ALSO), Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and Family Services Windsor-Essex (FSWE) repurposed both human and financial resources to form MOST…

The team… travel 5pm – 9pm Monday through Friday stopping at downtown and West-end locations.  MOST offers both services and supplies to Windsor’s street involved or those experiencing homelessness. “The goal is to not move these individuals on and out but to sit down and talk with the goal of connecting to existing community mental health services,” said Janice Kaffer, President & CEO of HDGH.  “If talking is not in the cards for that day. That’s ok. Maybe a warm blanket or food is.  MOST if about relationship, forming that trust that will encourage folks to get the help they need.”….
